WELCOME TO THE SPEAKEASY !
"....Now, rather excitingly, the musical maverick is back. Empowered by t’internet, a new generation of musicians can be as experimental as they like without having to worry about how it sounds to an A&R man. One such artist is Pilgrim Speakeasy, who combines the funkadelics of Parliament with a political and mystical message, the likes of which HOLV has never heard..."

Ghosts of Eden ..

The often unholy but beautiful spectre and spirit of Rock N' Roll is alive and well today in Ghosts of Eden. In riff after riff and line after line, these songs live inside and pour out of the souls of this band from the city that never sleeps. Formed in early 2008, the members have all played in various bands in and around New York City. After years of playing in the Staten Island and New Jersey hardcore punk/metal scene, the four friends decided to challenge themselves and their creativity by coming together to form the current lineup that is now Ghosts of Eden. With influences which run the gamut from hardcore and metal to 80s College Rock and 90s alternative, GOE seamlessly combines these seemingly disparate elements with a sound that gives your ear a good swift kick to the backside (as compiled from the bands website).

This is a band playing what they love and loving what they play, not just following banal commercial trends and vogues that are playing elsewhere.

Lee, we just love listening to bands that resist the mainstream and commercial trends!

The Nothingdoers...

DOWNLOAD “THE ROE THE BEAVER AND THE MUSKRAT”FOR FREE HERE http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fopen%3Fid%3D0B8tZZYqfEmZEcVRtanRGSHBVTDA&h=5AQE6KtYg

The Nothingdoers are a Moscow band formed in 2004 by Igor Ivanov (guitars, vocals, keyboards) and George Manaev (guitars, bass, vocals), also known by monikers Harry Johnson and George Manson, respectively. The Nothingdoers play contemporary folk-rock oriented music with English lyrics.

Because of the appalling situation with independent music recordings in Russia, The Nothingdoers cling to the principles of DIY in their recordings and in the process of album promotion, so they still remain unsigned and plan to continue releasing their future recordings under the Creative Commons license.

BLOODIEST - Crushing Walls of Sound......

Running seven members deep, and reading like a who’s who of the Chicago music scene (ex and current members of YAKUZA, 90 DAY MEN, FOLLOWS, ATOM BOMB POCKET KNIFE), BLOODIEST craft epic tracks that flow gracefully and methodically from crushing walls of sound to moments of fragility. Influenced both by the sounds of 90s Chicago underground rock scene as well as heavy music titans like Neurosis and Swans, BLOODIEST’s debut album ‘Descent’ sounds vast, symphonic and ultimately heavy.

Bloodiest members are:
Eric Chaleff
Tony Lazzara
Cayce Key
Nandini Khaund
Bruce Lamont
Craig Ackermann
Steve Art
Sean Patrick Riley
Ben Clarke (as compiled on the bands website)

COLT - Alternative / Electronica / Rock

UK band COLT began as writing duo Living With Eating Disorders; Andrea and Jared met in a west London recording studio and on the strength of demos attracted the interest of legendary producer John Fryer.  In August 2004 they released their debut EP ‘White Like Snow’ and the end of 2004 saw the band support ‘Psychic TV’ and ‘Whitehouse’, but increasing pressure forced the band to withdraw from the public eye and on the 16th March 2005 LWED performed their last gig - a multi media gallery project ‘parliament of monsters’, with live sets, projections and sculptures.  Keen to move beyond the controversy surrounding the name, the band returned in October 2005 as Colt, to release their debut album 'These Things Can't Hurt You Now, So Throw Them In The Fire' on Halloween to critical acclaim from the independent worldwide press.

In May 2008, After a change in the live line-up and a change of label, Colt released the new EP "You hold on to what's not real", featuring four new tracks, and remixes by artists including Arlen Figgis and William Bennett, on their own label Obvious Records along with the video for 'Black Rabbits'.  In September 2008 Colt re-released 'These things can't hurt you now, so throw them in the fire' through Obvious Records. The album includes bonus tracks 'Arm' and 'Lullaby Remix' by Arlen Figgis featuring Mike Figgis on Trumpet, from the LWED EP 'White Like Snow', and the previously unreleased 'Gag Reflex'.

Colt are currently in the studio writing an album. (as compiled on the bands website)

THE YOUNG DUBLINERS - Celtic Rock / Alternative

The Young Dubliners are excited for the release of Saints and Sinners, their second album on 429 Records--and first batch of original material since 2005's critically acclaimed Real World. After taking an exciting retro, rootsy labor of love detour to give a shout out to the masters of Irish song past and present on their 2007 429 Records debut "With All Due Respect, The Irish Sessions", the Young Dubliners drew inspiration from the trials and tribulations of the past few years on the road where they have encountered their share of, to borrow from an Irish proverb, "poets and patriots, saints and sinners", for the new album. ADRIAN AND THE SICKNESS - Bombastic Rock N' Roll!

Adrian and the Sickness is an undeniable front of infectious pop concoction wrapped around electric, bombastic rock and roll. They have been wowing live audiences with sweet melody and sheer sonic power since their debut in February 2004. Guitarist Adrian Conner also plays lead in Hell’s Belles, an AC/DC tribute band so fearsome that Angus Young himself is a devoted fan. She’s a deft soloist and a sure hand with a stinging riff, and she’s demonstrated her talents in front of demanding AC/DC fans all over the world. But she’s also a formidable pop-rock songwriter, penning honest, forthright songs spiked with catchy, irresistible hooks. Her original music has been called “exciting, rambunctious and kinda scary” in Guitar Player Magazine (2007).

In 2008, Adrian’s endearing melodies as well as her scalding six-string caught the attention of fellow Austin resident, songwriter and bassist for the Gogo’s, Kathy Valentine, who produced the band’s fourth CD, B.F.D. (2009). Kathy’s attention to sonic detail and eye for the architecture of pop composition resulted in an album that combines the rock fury and dazzling guitar of Angus’ best, with the approachability and energy of early Go-Go’s-style pop-punk. Adrian and the Sickness released B.F.D., under their own label, Fantom Records, which charted on CMJ stations across the US and Canada, in early 2010. (as compiled on the bands website)

THE UNDERSTREAM - Rock!

It all started in '93, when drummer Whytey met guitarist Jason Klassen and wanted to form a band. They found a singer, then hunted down a bass player and formed a hard rock band called Boneyard. They recorded a demo tape (yes I said tape) in '95 and shopped it around and played a bunch of local shows in Vancouver. Word spread and the band started to get a buzz going and more and more people starte...d coming out to shows. In '96 they went in to the studio to record their debut cd with producer Delwyn Brooks and were now ready to take on the world. They shopped the cd, and played tons of local shows getting the opening slots for bands such as LA Guns, Nickelback, and many many more.
In '98 they did their first big tour across Canada in an old van that the band bought and fixed up. They sold cd's and t-shirts to fund the tour, and had a blast on the road making many memories along the way. When they returned from the tour, they let go their lead singer, and the hunt was on to find a replacement. They weren't having much luck with the auditions until one day, when the band was rehearsing, they heard a guy in the room across the hall singing Skid Row songs...........read more at http://www.theunderstream.com/  (all as compiled on the bands website)

KENELIS - Alternative Rock, Grungy Punk!

Words to describe Kenelis! Alternative, Attitude, Punk, Rock, Grunge, Melodic & Anthemic. A unique mix which gives the band their own distinctive sound, with fans crossing over all alternative genres. Comparisons have included the raw angst of Hole, vulnerability of Placebo and diversity of Radiohead. Kenelis are constantly developing their sound and are known for experimenting with different time signatures and song structures, whilst staying true to creating unpretentious memorable rock music.

The new sound of Kenelis is current, original and on target to fill a huge gap in the market.  For too long the industry has been empty of established female vocalists that won't take any prisoners and rock it as hard as the boys.  With an army of sound and a musical ability to make you stand up and take notice, Kenelis are ready to fill that void.

LAST TRAIN HOME - An Acclaimed Roots Rock Favorite!

If you’ve overdosed on teen celebs (well-behaved and otherwise), D.C. band Last Train Home has the cure: music by and for grown-ups. Their latest release is packed with intelligent, emotionally truthful lyrics, tuneful vocals, and a scintillating mix of influences from 80s power pop and cowboy music, to border radio and Brazilian jazz.

"One of the country's most formidable roots-rock bands."  ~ That's the assessment of Nashville's Tennessean newspaper about Last Train Home. And while roots-rock is at the heart of LTH's sound, don't overlook the country, bluegrass, swing, blues, folk, pop, and Tin Pan Alley influences you'll find if you lend this band an ear. What began as a part-time band in Washington D.C. back in 1997 has evolved into an acclaimed full-time touring group based out of Nashville.
The band has played more than a thousand shows over the years, including tours of Australia, Germany, Switzerland, and the Virgin Islands. With its nine releases, Last Train Home is a prolific band that gets better with each release, and continues to be one of the most interesting bands on the landscape of American music.  (as compiled on the bands website)

NAKEDOWN - Alternative/Acoustic Rock!

In the metaphorical sense NakeDown is a unique experience a fusion of latin and alternative rock with a spice of almost everything else,a mix of diverse emotions the marriage of thoughts and feelings, the love and suffering, the rise and fall, the beauty and chaos.Their music is edgy, energetic, and filled with haunting melodies.

Their enthusiasm, style, and class lights up every room they play. All three members of the band have completely different music roots, and they play off each other in creating a sound that is felt even more than it is heard. The result is a sound that has been compared to the melodic sense of Lacuna Coil and Evanescence, the playfulness of No Doubt, the vibe of the Whole, and they rock as hard as Slash’s Snakepit and Alice in Chains. LEFTOVER SALMON - Americana

Looking back over the past 25 years of rootsy, Americana, string-based music, the impact of Leftover Salmon is impossible to deny. Formed in Boulder, CO in 1989 the group was one of the first bluegrass bands to add drums and tour rock & roll bars, helping Salmon become a pillar of the jam band scene and unwitting architects of the jam grass genreusic, the impact of Leftover Salmon is impossible to deny. Formed in Boulder, CO in 1989 the group was one of the first bluegrass bands to add drums and tour rock & roll bars, helping Salmon become a pillar of the jam band scene and unwitting architects of the jam grass genre.

Though the band members are reticent to accept the weight of their influence, Leftover Salmon co-founder, singer, guitarist, fiddle and mandolin player Drew Emmitt does reflect fondly on the band’s early days. “We knew we were doing something special” he says. “At that point in the early-90′s, it was the birth of the jam band movement, Phish was starting out, Widespread Panic was starting out, and they were a little ahead of us, obviously, but we were one of the first bands to get out there with bluegrass and just get on the road and try to make something happen without a record deal. We were just following in the footsteps of New Grass Revival, Hot Rize and Little Feat, but by doing that I think we inspired some other bands too.”  (as compiled on the bands website)

BROOKE MACKINTOSH - Indie / Acoustic / Soul

A natural born singer, by the age of five she was performing original musical compositions. Finding solace in writing with her dad's acoustic Fender in her teens, her passion for songwriting began.   In 2006, she relocated and submersed herself in the San Diego music scene where she met and instantly befriended award-winning producer, Sven-Erik Seaholm and released her first album a year later. Within a few years Seaholm and Mackintosh realized their true harmony potential and began performing as the duo, Seaholm Mackintosh. Now, with multilple record projects, Brooke continues her career as a solo performer and studio musician, specializing in harmonies and songwriting. (as compiled on Brooke's website)

THE WIDEST SMILING FACES - Indie / Folk

"After countless hours of blissful work and euphoric toil, I am proud to present you with the Widest Smiling Faces. This album is a compilation of songs arranged to form something resembling an abstract emotional narrative, or to be more abstract, a narrative of imagery and color.

It is recommended that you listen between the hours of 2-4 A.M. preferably with headphones, in a state somewhat between cognizance and senselessness." The Widest Smiling Faces (as compiled on the bands website)

Keith Thompson...

An Evening with Keith ThompsonAn Evening with Keith Thompson

Singer/Songwriter Keith Thompson returns to the Everyman Studio.

Keith Thompson has received much critical acclaim in the music press. Having toured the length and breadth of the UK and Europe mostly with his band, Keith finds it refreshing to strip the songs down to a simple acoustic level.

Blues Matters magazine states: “Keith’s acoustic guitar takes us off to the Mississippi Delta in some songs, gentle, intricate acoustic guitar playing in others. The consequence is not so much a sound as a mood or an all-consuming atmosphere.

JUSTIN AND THE SALTY DOGS - Folk, Roots & Blues

Justin and the Salty Dogs began making music out of necessity. When Brownie McGhee (1915-1996) so astutely said years ago that “Blues is Truth,” he exposed the roots of an ancient philosophical tradition that regards music as playing an important role in the welfare of a troubled mind. The ancient Roman philosopher Seneca (ca. 4 BCE-65 CE), for instance, speaks like a bluesman when he says, "Let the mind be soothed by the reading of poetry and occupied by the tales of history; it should be treated with sensitivity and finesse. Pythagoras used to calm his worried mind with the lyre; and who does not know that the cornet and trumpet act as stimulants to the mind, just as certain songs provide it therapeutic relief" (De Ira 3.9). The songs by Justin and the Salty Dogs, initially self-prescribed medicines, have precisely this aim. (as compiled on the bands website)
