Cosmonauts... Kimmy digs them..

Dynamic four piece from Edinburgh infused with 60s rock, dark sounds and brooding electric cello.  The Cosmonauts were formed in 2008 by guitarist/vocalist Chris Bryce and bassist/vocalist Alan Robertson, the latest phase in a long-term collaboration of almost 10 years. With the aim of creating a more distinctive sound, cellist/vocalist Claire Schiavone was brought on board, adding a notably dark edge to the sound. After experimenting with several dummers, Paul Stuart joined the group in 2009. With their line-up settled, The Cosmonauts set to work fusing their sound together and bringing their individual influences and shared vision to the mix. After recording a few demos the band decided to try them out at live gigs in Edinburgh, eliciting a extremely positive response from audiences. With this new found confidence the band then pushed themselves further, securing regular gigs outside Edinburgh, plus radio play in the USA and on Scottish independent radio stations.

Riding this wave of enthusiasm, The Cosmonauts are currently working on their self produced debut album, due for release in early 2012.  In the meantime, the band have released a 3-track EP showcasing the diverse styles and real musical depth of their sound. This is to give existing fans and new listeners a taste of what is to come on the album. Once the album is released, The Cosmonauts will be promoting it throughout the UK with live gigs and more local/international radio play. (as compiled on the bands website)

ZITA SWOON - Melody-Harmony, Movement-Rhythm

Zita Swoon was born in Antwerp during the nineties of the previous century. It is a collective formed around Stef Kamil Carlens who writes lyrics and music, sings and plays instruments. Piercing songs with a groove and a band that never does repeat itself live is their trademark. From absurd funk to traditional singer-songwriting, with here and there a dash of folk, blues and eighties disco. 

Zita Swoon is a cosmopolitan group of Antwerp internationalists. They each carry their own baggage and share it with the other members of the band. They also involve other artists from other disciplines: choreographers, dancers and theatre people. Together they form a new lab for scene productions of hybrid performances. ANTI-M - Darkwave Gothic Rock

Anti-M was founded as a trio of keyboardists but has evolved in to a 5 piece band with a mixture of electronica, like Depeche Mode, and female fronted gothic rock, like Evanescence, Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil.  The band has released 5 albums: No Waves In Hell, Positively Negative, It H-Hurts - The Instrumentals, Damage, Damaged Little Things. 

Anti-m was formed by Mark Rumer, John (Wedge) Wardlaw and Ruston Slager in Santa Barbara, Ca.  Portland Oregon guitarist and college friend, Steve (Salty) Weber, was brought in during the final stages of the recording of the bands first album, No Waves in Hell, to play the bulk of the guitars. The CD was a concept album with a surfing theme and several music videos were made to go along with the music. This caught the eye of surfing film maker Jimi Berlin who started using songs from Anti-M projects in his surf films.  (as compiled on the bands website)

THE LOYD - Rock, Portugal Style!

"Love and Revolution" is the first album of the Portuguese band the LOYD, after the EP "Done" released in 2007, and it is available since May of 2010.   Presented live on the 6 of March, the expected return of the band to the stages was marked by appearances by Michael Bello (Lullabye) and Nuno Melo (Mundo Secreto) and also by the first public screening of the music video "Alone (Where I'm Going)".

VULGARRITY - "Never seen anything like that before!"

Perhaps it’s no coincidence that death and the macabre are the subject matter of the majority of VulGarrity’s music. True, the brother-sister team’s unhealthy obsession with horror movies is a large part of the equation, however it’s also symbolic of the journey that brought VulGarrity into existence in 2008. After several years of making music with a rotating cast of band members (not to mention band names), Tracy and Shawn had a problem – they needed to break the cycle, but didn’t know how. After a few months of soul-searching and musical experimentation, they came upon a solution that takes the “do-it-yourself” mentality to the extreme - they lay to rest the traditional idea of a rock band and decided to play every instrument themselves…at the same time. The band uses technology to enhance live performance in a truly extraordinary way. The use of loop pedals allows the dynamic duo to play drums, guitar, bass and keys all at the same time, while executing tight vocal harmonies. That’s not all – they switch instruments, too – usually several times during a show, sometimes within the same song, without missing a beat. Sure, other acts use samples and loop pedals on stage, but the difference is nothing is pre-recorded – the riffs are recorded live in front of the audience and then started and stopped during the song, while other instruments are being played, to create the effect of a full band. How do they do this? Come to a live show and see for yourself. Such a unique performance style could be considered a “gimmick” by some, but the siblings don’t mind this label, because the results never cease to amaze. (as compiled on the bands website)

The album contains four tracks, and the initial standout would probably be their tripped/blown out cover of the Alice Coltrane classic 'Journey In Satchidananda'  but this album has FAR more to offer than just that epic piece. It really flows like a great work, musically skipping between psychedelia, avant garde, krautrock and a bit of space rock. It covers many bases but sounds perfect as a whole. Anti-M is a Santa Barbara based mostly electronic rock band. While the band has been releasing albums since 1992 their main claim to fame is having a rather famous guest guitarist. Ronnie Montrose, known for forming the band Montrose and starting the career of singer Sammy Hagar, played on the band's second album "Positively Negative". The band also release a CD of instrumental remixes featuring alternate versions of the songs that Ronnie Montrose played on. The bands discography includes "No Waves in Hell", "Positively Negative", "It H-Hurts, the Instrumentals", A remastered version of "Positively Negative" that features two bonus track instrumentals that include Ronnie Montrose.^[1]

The band's latest album entitled, "Damage", was released in 2008.This album features a guest performance by Bassist Tim Landers who has played with various talent includingTori Amos, Vince Neil, Stevie Nicks, Al Di Meola and Billy Cobham to name a few. The style of the album is dark and gothic with a mix of influences from bands like Within Temptation, Evanescence and electronica like Depeche Mode.^[2]

GOE completed recording their self-produced debut EP "Ignorance & Lies" at Big Blue Meenie Studios (Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, Helmet, Local H, Bouncing Souls, The Misfits, etc.) All songs were written, arranged and produced by the band. "Ignorance & Lies" was released on January 16th, 2010 to rave reviews by critics and fans alike. They begin working on their yet to be titled follow up in March 2011 (as compiled on the bands website).

THE SEARCH - Staying Alive in a Country Industrialized!

The Search appeared on the Swedish independent music scene in 2000. Their first full-length album, the eponymous The Search, was an original take on the lush, atmospheric sounds of 80’s pop and post punk. The album was distributed by Red Sun Records and ended up as No.1 on their best sales chart for almost 3 months. A European tour followed with live gigs in the U.K., Germany, Holland, and Denmark.
