Winter's Thrall...

You are either growing or dying.
There is no in between.

Most of us are in the thrall of Winter. There is coming though, an infinite Spring. We feel the cruel claws of Winter all the more intensely because of our nascent awareness of it; but in the depth of the cold night, when you are chilled to the core of your being, the inevitable, warm wind of tomorrow seems a million years away.

Let the music into your ears, and it will make its way into your soul. There, it will crystallize all your hurt and fear. In the bright flame of your consciousness, you will melt it away. All the things which you once knew, when time did not exist, shall be again. For they are the truth. The knowledge of fire is yours, you have but forgotten it for a moment.

What does this mean? The question determines the answer. Everything is within your power (as compiled on this bands website).

Lee-

Your cave is haunted! Very creepy and bone chilling things have been happening around here (and as you probably know Jack is not much of a guard burrow). If you won’t be coming home soon, maybe you can send Sarge Colman over to help us defend your cave - I hear he is really good at off-ing aliens with beer bottle tops.

Jack and I love it when you play Winter's Thrall - thanks for adding them to the petting zoo you call Pluto Radio..!

See you soon!

Marquis of Vaudeville ...

As a vivid reality, Marquis of Vaudeville’s music is whatever you, as the listener, hear within it and take from it. It’s whatever you want it to be. To some, they might seem like 60’s revivalists, or to others, a reincarnated meld of 70’s Brit-Glam, but whatever they are to you, or represent, or can relate to in your life, it’s that connection that drives them; to express, to communicate.
Hate them, love them, they demand the world take notice, and merely desire to incite something genuine, to inspire sincere emotion despite the world’s mind numbing mediocrity and generic mass production. Marquis of Vaudeville is a tantalizing flavor for even the most finicky musical appetite (compiled from the bands website).

Ghosts Of Eden...

"Great, melodic grunge rock with a vibe that's a total throwback to the good ole' days of the 90's, when flannel was in, the Towers were still standing, and we all still harbored a slight distrust for the Russians." - Some dude

"As of now Ghosts of Eden are unsigned, but I predict that it won't be long at all before the record label bidding wars begin." - A Geek Girl, Blog Critics

"Ghosts Of Eden are a band to keep your eye on. With a growing fan base in the US and also a new fan base here in the UK, the band are on the up to make an impact." - Michael Hughes, Founder, EspyRock.com

"Ghosts of Eden are the hottest band to come out of New York in at least a decade." - Interviews From The Edge, Technorati.com
"Have a listen to Ignorance and Lies by Ghosts of Eden and judge for yourself. With one listen I'm sure you'll be just as blown away as I was. With two listens you won't be able to stop pushing the play button."
- Tricia Weight, The Examiner

GOE completed recording their self-produced debut EP "Ignorance & Lies" at Big Blue Meenie Studios (Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, Helmet, Local H, Bouncing Souls, The Misfits, etc.) All songs were written, arranged and produced by the band. "Ignorance & Lies" was released on January 16th, 2010 to rave reviews by critics and fans alike. They begin working on their yet to be titled follow up in March 2011 (as compiled on the bands website).

Captian Obvious...

Captain Obvious is about six guys musically connecting to each other and to their audience, trying to overcome stylistical limits and to reach a state of trance and euphoria.

We are no Jam Band in a sense of aimless noodling-around, of playing one solo after the next, more so we try to really listen to each other and challenge ourselves to take risks on stage at the cost of perfection. And to just do what feels right musically. At one moment you might hear us play an unexpected cover song or a tightly arranged 2-minute-rocker, the next we might delve into a 15-minute Dub-Electronica-Funk Jam. You also might hear us try spontaneous chord or rhythm changes on stage which might work and be the coolest thing we ever did.. or also might not. That's basically what The Captain is about. Having a fun time with our audience, taking risks, expressing oneself musically, making interesting music that you can move your body to. About taking it all to the next level. And hoping you will follow us there.  (as compiled on the bands website)

The Truths... on the commercial free Pluto Radio stream.

Weedy indie, new rave, old wave, post-rock blah blah blah, at last a band to cut through all the bullshit and actually make you fall in love with music again!

Critical response to their live shows has been ecstatic, prompting one journalist to exclaim "The Truths are the best band I’ve seen in ten years”, Stoked magazine calling them “a sexy, aggressive wall of sound”, The Guardian calling them “absolutely f*****g amazing!” etc.

After Anthony Neale (vocals) and Joe Taylor (guitar) met through a mutual friend they started jamming on Anthony's songs and almost immediately a strong musical partnership was formed and they knew they wanted to set the world ablaze with their music. "The chemistry was there from the start”, says Joe. “It just felt right”. Having met bass player James Goddard, Joe knew that he would fit right in. Simon Ward-Wilson (keyboards, guitar) and powerhouse drummer Dave Neale were the last pieces of the jigsaw. “After the first rehearsal it was clear we could make a sound bigger than the sum of our parts”- Anthony Neale.

With one of the most charismatic lead singers around and a huge stage presence as a band, they’ve been described as “something that’s been missing from British music for a long time”. With their sights set high The Truths look set to kick the doors in this year, and take their place as one of England most exciting new bands (all as compiled from the bands website)

Stone Cold Boys...

Stone Cold Boys is a Russian band, founded in 2007 in Moscow. The band's recognizable mark is style-mixing, though originally they belong to the first stoner-rock wave in Russia, with such bands as Cactus Jumper and Evil Cosmonaut. Being interested mostly in 60-70's and 90's, the musicians produce riff-based compositions, throwing grunge, blues, jazz and hardcore in one melting pot. As for themselves, Stanislav, Pavel, Ivan and Eugene never tried to be the part of some specific musical society. Their love for stoner culture and music is neighbouring with their love to some crude humor, boogie-dancing, psychodelic trips and tons of self-irony. Jewish cowboys make friends with Egyptian mummies and Action Heroes, concerning their songs' lyrics. From being serious to being hilarious — and don't forget to dance! The band has already gathered some positive reviews from Russian musical press and published their first album Just a Fish in December 2009. In the atmosphere of conspiracy and mystery Stone Cold Boys are working hard now on their new release. (as compiled on the bands website)

Pass of Era.

Pass of EraLike all music you and I have ever enjoyed, Pass of Era seeks to move you from this world into the visceral realm of human emotion - a place where you can fully immerse yourself in a journey that builds it's own reality as time moves forward. That feeling of discovery and passion is why we are here - to write - to perform - to listen - to share. This is the world built by three young musicians from Edmonton, Alberta. This is the story of Pass of Era.
The group is currently nearing the release of their debut EP titled "The Scripted Dream" (slated for a January, 2011 release) whilst beginning work on their first full length concept album and preparing to hit the scene and bring their story to the stage. (per the band's webpage)

Smokefish...

Wake Up lyrics by Smoke Fish...

You say you got to go your way
You gotta carry on
And I say stay don’t play hey!
You gotta move on
It’s a beautiful world just
Shine on
You’ve got places to go
Just go just carry on…
You got the time to choose or lose
You’ve gotta Wake Up
One day you fall and boom you’re doomed
You’ve gotta Wake Up
You say you got to explore the waves
You gotta sail on
And I say stay hey don’t fade away
You gotta float on
It’s a beautiful world just keep on
Shining through
You’ve got places to see
Just leave just carry on…
You got the time to choose or lose
You’ve gotta Wake Up
One day you fall and boom you’re doomed
You’ve gotta Wake Up

The Dots.

The Dots were simply the best band in New York City from the late seventies to the mid eighties. Led by guitarist Rick Garcia, a prolific songwriter who has been described as 'dangerously brilliant', the star of the band was lead singer Jimmi Quidd, formerly James Hatzidimitriou, who attended high school in Athens, Greece with rock solid bass player Leigh Sioris. These three made up the core of the Dots and were joined by a number of top NY musicians for different periods of the bands history including Alison East, Jimmy Agnello, Nat Seeley, Vinnie Signorelli, Billy Bell, Al Maddy and Jeff Formosa. Their songs were finely crafted punk-pop with clever lyrics and unforgettable hooks. With a sound like the Move at their best the band often opened with 'I Can Hear the Grass Grow' before crusing through a one hour set of perfect 3 minute songs, played at high volume and high energy.  (as compiled on the bands website)

Marble Sheep on Pluto Radio!

"Wow, yes indeed, Marble Sheep.  One ultra-cool band from Japan... Only because we're international here on the commercial free Pluto Radio stream" -  LEE))#

Monday, November 9, 2015

Lee's interview with Nancy Deedrick is currently in rotation on the commercial free Pluto Radio stream.   It is an informal discussion about life on the Sunset Strip back in the sixties and seventies.  Ms. Deedrick's website is titled THE GREAT HOLLYWOOD HANGOVER (http://www.hollywoodhangover.com/)  Nancy shares stories of what it was like living on the Strip in the mid to late sixties and early seventies.  The Whiskey Go Go, The Roxy, The London Fog, The Classic Cat, The Body Shop...   Lee also includes an audio recording of Nancy and some friends getting tossed out of a motel for playing their guitars too loud - perhaps most notable, Mr. Joe Cocker.  The following is an excerpt from Nancy's website: "

If you hung out on "The Strip" in the sixties, then you know exactly what the "Hollywood Hangover" is. If you were not there, then you probably wish you had been, so here is where you'll find information about the people who lived in the grandest part of the world during the greatest era of them all.

What I have read and seen so far about that period, would have given me the wrong impression, had I not lived there myself.  The Jim Morrison movie for instance, was disturbing--the way we were portrayed.  It was misleading. Whose impression was THAT?!  ...and oh so negative!  That's not the way I remember it, folks.

I don't remember anything bad about the sixties. The bad stuff was minimal; and it's not something I ever want to zero in on like so many other writers have done.  Every movie, every documentary--all negative or sleazy.  We weren't angels, but we weren't offensive pigs, either. Our young people are being deprived of the truth, because they have been given a warped notion of what went on. I was there, and it was wonderful."

"Nancy's just a cool lady"- Lee

SPIRITUALIZED - Space Rock

Spiritualized are an English space rock band formed in 1990 in Rugby, Warwickshire by Jason Pierce (who often goes by the alias J. Spaceman) after the demise of his previous outfit, space-rockers Spacemen 3. The membership of Spiritualized has changed from album to album, with Pierce — who writes, composes and sings all of the band's material — being the only constant member.  The band took their name from an adaptation of the text on the back label of a bottle of Pernod.
Spiritualized have released seven studio albums. The best known and most critically acclaimed of these is perhaps 1997's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, which NME Magazine named as their Album of the Year. (as compiled on the bands website)

ROTOR - Instrumental Rock!

...........a flowered german tank full of iranian neohippies on mescaline in their search of the holy hole races through your auditory canal...

Be prepared for an astonishing piece of music! (stonerrock.com)

This trio from Berlin makes an infernal intensive noise between old Kyuss, older eccentric US-indie-rock and very, very old psychedelic rumble. (rockhard)

Attention! Neo-Hippies are at work. (metal hammer)

Starless era King Crimson meets Monster Magnet, this is a ferocious slice of distorted riffing and turbo charged wah-pedal action, which stampedes through you like a herd of buffalo chasing the sun. A space-rock masterpiece for the grunge generation. (terrascope)

THE TRUTHS - Fall in Love with Music Again!

VULGARRITY - Horror-Tinged Rock!

Perhaps it’s no coincidence that death and the macabre are the subject matter of the majority of VulGarrity’s music. True, the brother-sister team’s unhealthy obsession with horror movies is a large part of the equation, however it’s also symbolic of the journey that brought VulGarrity into existence in 2008. After several years of making music with a rotating cast of band members (not to mention band names), Tracy and Shawn had a problem – they needed to break the cycle, but didn’t know how.

After a few months of soul-searching and musical experimentation, they came upon a solution that takes the “do-it-yourself” mentality to the extreme - they lay to rest the traditional idea of a rock band and decided to play every instrument themselves…at the same time. The band uses technology to enhance live performance in a truly extraordinary way. (as compiled on the bands website).

THIS IS NOWHERE - Alternative / Psychedelic / Blues

Named after Neil's masterpiece? Maybe............
We now accept psychedelia as the one way road to nowhere...........
The beginning..........
Suffering needlessly to escape from the reality we carefully created.........
We never really tried........
Though the music is healing.......
At least for us......
Formed before a while.....
Recording sessions in process....
Waiting impatiently for the summer...
and the Sun..
love.

KELLY VICE - Acoustic Rock

Kelley Vice brings together diverse elements of acoustic rock, jazz, and innovative technique in an unconventional style rich with modal tunings, vibrant melodies and passionate vocals. Influenced heavily by James Taylor, the late Michael Hedges, Chris Cornell and Dave Matthews, Kelley's songwriting is evocative and painfully honest, conveying a depth of emotion that keeps listeners coming back for more.

Kelley's music encompasses a wide spectrum of style and emotion, ranging from the explosive "Give In" to the haunting statement of "I Can Still Fall". His instrumentals move easily from dark sensuality to playful innocence. Though all are executed with the same unique character developed over two and a half decades of performance, no two songs are alike. (as compiled on the bands website)

CIRCUIT-BENT PROJECT - Experimental / Industrial / Rock

The Circuit-Bent Project's recording sessions began officially in May of 2004. The project itself started much earlier than that though, it just didn't have a name yet. Back in the fall of 2000, Jesse Mesa-Savage aka Tablebeast, began experimenting with circuit-bending and soon came up with a grand idea. The project is a recycling of resources on a multifaceted scale: turning modified gear (Speak and Spells, Modular Casio SK-1's, Drum Machines, etc.) into an orchestra of equipment for recording and then selling the equipment to fund the recording and release of a record based on those very instruments.

After years of gear building and sound experimentation, Jesse began working with Tim Wright in the summer of 2004 on what was now called The Circuit-Bent Project. This collaboration soon spawned the LP, Slow Children Playing.  (as compiled on the bands website)
