Paul E.
Phonics is a musical alter ego of Canadian Paul McCormick, a side of the
musician that evolved from his fondness for New Wave, Electronica,
Progressive Rock, Industrial Rock and Film Scores. The combination of
these influences has led to a sound that is utterly unique with each
song becoming the equivalent of a short film in its own right with
abstract, poetic lyrics revealing the plot like some kind of secret
code.
McCormick left his homeland in 2000 in search of new musical inspiration ending up in Berlin, Germany. After years of playing in various bands and performing alone with his acoustic guitar in the smaller cafés and clubs of the city, he decided in 2009 to take a different approach and awaken some aspects of his musical personality that had been dormant for years. The result is "Paul E. Phonics" - a singer/songwriter for the 21st century - essentially a one man band with Paul on keyboards and vocals accompanied by his laptop.
